SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Nicole Oudenaarden won the heptathlon at the 35th Aztec Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, finishing with 5,716 points. In the process, Oudenaarden broke Jessica Zelinka's Canadian Junior record 5,688 points in the heptathlon, set in 2000. Oudenaarden eclipsed Zelinka's prior marks in every event except the high jump. San Diego State junior Allison Reaser took second place with 5,392 points, while freshman Karsen Sper took fourth with 4,504 points.
Sophomore Jasmine Burrell took first place in the hammer throw open event with a toss of 49.71-meters, while junior Mikayla Howden finished eighth (44.53). Sophomore Brittany Gonter finished second in the discus open with a throw of 44.39-meters, just behind Utah Valley's Maryn Pincock (46.11). Junior Maderia Toatley was third in the 100-meter open with a time of 12.18-seconds and sixth in the 200-meter open (25.10).
Senior Thoraya Maronsey claimed fourth place in the long jump open, with a leap of 5.44-meters. Sophomore Rebecca Turnbow was fourth in the pole vault open at 3.50-meters, while senior Alex Evans was fourth in the shot put open (12.54) and fifth in the 100 hurdles open (14.43).
The Aztec Invitational resumes Saturday morning at 9 a.m. PT and will run all day.
