Reaser Wins Third Straight Pentathlon at MW Champs

NAMPA, Idaho - Junior Allison Reaser won her third consecutive pentathlon at the Mountain West Indoor Championships to lead the San Diego State track and field team Thursday in Nampa, Idaho.

Reaser, who has now won all three indoor pentathlons at the championships over her career and both outdoor heptathlons, finished with a school-record 3,971 points, edging out freshman teammate Nicole Oudenaarden (3,969) by just two points.

Freshman Karsen Sper (3,654) and Brittany Bozeman (3,440) finished fifth and eighth, respectively, to give the Aztecs 23 points and the early lead after one event (Wyoming is second with six points). All four SDSU competitors logged all-time program top-10 marks as Reaser and Oudenaarden and now 1-2, while Sper and Bozeman are seventh and ninth.

Trailing Oudenaarden by 68 points heading into the final event of the competition, Reaser finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 22.30 seconds. The personal-best time, which got her an additional 793 points, was just enough to beat Oudenaarden, who took fourth in 2:27.59 (723 points).

The day kicked off with the 60-meter hurdles as Reaser won in a season-best time of 8.43 seconds (1,032 points). Oudenaarden was fourth in 8.86 (939 points) with Sper (fifth, 933) and Bozeman (eighth, 873) each cracking the top 10 in 8.89 and 9.18.

Next up was the high jump where Sper led all San Diego State athletes with a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches (1.65 meters), which tied her for second and got her 795 points. It's also tied for the eighth-best indoor high jump in school history. Oudenaarden tied for ninth at 5-01.25 (1.56m) for 689 points, while Reaser and Bozeman each were 14th at 5-00.25 (1.53m) for 655 points.

The Aztecs dominated in the shot put, taking first (Oudenaarden, 44-11.75 (13.71m), 775 points), second (Bozeman, 40-10.50 (12.46m), 692 points), fourth (Reaser, 38-06.75 (11.75m), 645 points) and tying for 10th (Sper, 32-10.50 (10.02m), 531 points).

SDSU continued its dominance in the long jump, taking the top-three spots and tying for ninth in the other. Reaser tied her indoor PR of 19-08.00 (5.99m) for 846 points and was closely followed by Oudenaarden (19-07.50 (5.98m), 843 points) and Bozeman (19-00.50 (5.80m), 789 points). Reaser (tied for sixth), Oudenaarden (seventh) and Bozeman (ninth) all logged all-time top-10 marks in the event. Sper finished in a tie for ninth at 16-11.50 (5.17m) for 606 points.

In the deciding 800 in the final event, Reaser (1:48.46) and Oudenaarden (1:49.93) were close after three laps (600 meters), but Reaser closed her final 200 in 33.83 seconds to finish in 2:22.29. Oudenaarden finished fourth in 2:27.58 after closing in 37.65. Sper was seventh in 2:29.49 for 699 points and Bozeman took 18th in 2:53.23 (431 points).

All four athletes are expected to compete in more events over the next two days. Friday kicks off at 1 p.m. MT with the high jump and concludes for San Diego State at 5:30 p.m. MT (long jump) in the pits and 5:50 p.m. MT on the track (200 qualifying heats).
