SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State swimming and diving team defeated Tulane, 67-58, in an abbreviated meet that featured a Senior Day celebration for seven athletes competing for the final time at the Aztec Aquaplex. And it was only fitting that those seniors were involved in first place finishes in each of the six swimming events contested during the meet.

The meet started off with the Aztec senior foursome of Leona Jennings. Katelyn Weddle, Gemma Johnson and Meghan Zimmer capturing first place in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:43.50 was the second-fastest mark ever at the Aquaplex and ranks as the eight-best mark in the SDSU record book.

Senior Jessica Crider then took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.57 as she edged teammate Kelly Marquenie (1:50.61) for the top spot.

In the ensuing event, Johnson went 25.04 in the 50 butterfly and she finished in a dead heat with fellow Aztec Loreen Whitfield for first place.

Jennings turned in a 26.80 in the 50 backstroke to take first before Weddle went 29.06 in the 50 breaststroke to record the day's top time in that event.

Senior Meghan Zimmer was a member of the foursome that won the 200 free relay as she and Chelsea Bailey, Maddy Dalcamo and Mikaela Mackling teamed up to record a time of 1:35.85. That mark was the second-feasted ever at the Aquaplex and ranks 10 on the SDSU all-time list.

In the diving, Anna Steiner swept the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 281.25 and 301.65 respectively. Her mark on the 1-meter springboard was a career best and both scores were good enough to qualify for the Zone Diving Meet in March.

San Diego State will have a short turnaround as it prepares to travel north for a double dual meet against UCLA and Kansas on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11:00 a.m. at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.
