COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State divers completed the opening day of the Air Force Diving Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday with a pair of top five finishes in the platform event and a top 10 finish on the 1-meter springboard.

Senior Rafaella Suarez recorded the Aztecs' finish on the day as she placed second on the platform with a score of 230.90. Teammate anna Steiner was close behind as her mark of 208.55 was good enough for fifth place among the 43 athletes competing in the event.

In addition, SDSU freshman Ashley Stott (175.80) and Kelsey Bean (147.35) placed 20th and 34th respectively.

On the 1-meter board, Steiner advanced through the prelims to record an eighth-place finish. He score of263.45 in the prelims allowed her to qualify for the finals where she scored 264.10 and place eighth of the 47 competitors in the event.

Suarez's mark of 227.35 in the prelims allowed her to finish 22nd while Stott was 24th with a score of 222.30. Kelsey Bean rounded out the Aztec contingent with 195.65 points and a 36thh-place showing.

Action continues on Saturday at the Academy with the women's 3-meter board competition schedule to get underway with the prelims commencing at 12:40 p.m. (MT).
