SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team had two players recognized for their work in the classroom by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Freshman Kristin Buth and senior Roxanne Ellison were named 2012 ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Buth, a first-time honoree, finished her first season on The Mesa in 2011-12. Ellison, who finished her senior campaign this past season, picks up her fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete award. Since 2002, San Diego State has had its student-athletes honored by the ITA 18 times.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1) Be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Earlier this year both Aztecs were also tabbed as 2012 Mountain West scholar-athletes and named to the 2012 Mountain West all-academic team.
