SAN DIEGO -
2012 Red-Black All-Comers Meet Results
The San Diego State track and field team hosted its annual Red-Black All-Comers Meet on Saturday (Dec. 1) on the Aztrack Sports Deck. The 15-event, U.S.A. Track and Field sanctioned meet was also the second in the USATF San Diego-Imperial Association Winter Track Series.
The Aztecs were some of 191 athletes who competed in the 15-event meet, up from 146 in 2011.
SDSU once again divvied up into "Red" and "Black" teams and competed against each other for scoring purposes with the Black squad coming out on top by the slimmest of margins at 64-63. The meet came down to the last two events - long jump and 4x400-meter relay - before the black team captured another intrasquad title.
This year's meet was fortunate enough to have two significant San Diego State Track and Field Alums in Linn Dunton ('79) and Ron Wade ('58). In competing with the current Aztecs, they brought new meaning to the phrase, "Aztecs for Life." Dunton is still ranked third all-time in the javelin, while Wade lettered under SDSU Hall of Fame coach "Choc" Sportsman. Both are still competing at the Masters level.
Including athletes, spectators and volunteers, this year's attendance was close to 300 people from ages 8 to 80.
"It was another great day for track and field and San Diego State," meet director Rick Reaser said. "The University is so blessed to have such great support from the community, alumni, parents and fans. Once again, our volunteers were simply amazing and made the meet function like clockwork. I am so impressed with this year's team as well. The Aztecs lit the track on fire and were superb examples of sportsmanship, athleticism and leadership to the many younger athletes that participated in the meet."
