Complete Day 1 Results

The San Diego State Aztec swim team finished day one at the Arena Invitational in second place in the meet after the first five events. SDSU (309 points) trails only two-time defending national champion California (339 points) with Arizona State in third (243 points). A total of 16 women's team are competing at the three day Invitational being contestes at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.

The Aztecs began the day with a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome of Whitney Weisz, Natilee Ruiz, Gemma Johnson and Maddy Dalcamo turned in a time of 1:33.04, a mark that goes into the school record book as the fourth-fastest time in program history.

They followed that up by taking third, fourth and fifth in the 500 freestyle led by Melanie Garibaldi's time of 4:45.81, second-best ever by an SDSU swimmer. Jessica Crider's fourth-place mark of 4:47.77 goes down as the fourth-fastest time in program history and she was followed by Kelly Marquenie in fifth at4:48.48.

The next event, the 200 freestyle, saw Leon Jennings capture third place in 2:00.47. right behind her in fourth was teammate Mikaela Macklin who finished in 2:00.91.

Freshman Whitney Weisz was the Aztecs' top finisher in the 50 freestyle as her eighth-place consolation time if 23.78 was the 8th-best ever by an SDSU swimmer. Also scoring points in the event for San Diego State were Gemma Johnson (first in the bonus final at 23.32) and Dalcamo (seventh in the bonus final at 23.95). Johnson time ranks as the fourth-fastest in program history while Dalcamo's mark is ninth.

In the day's finale event of the day, the quartet of Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Loreen Whitfield and Macklin took third in the 400 medley relay in 3:40.60 (third-best ever for SDSU). The team of Ruiz, Kelsey Jenkinson, Livvi Sefton and Dalcamo went 3:50.63during the preliminary heats, a mark that ties; for eighth-best in the school record book.
