SAN DIEGO -
Marianne Hogan claimed the individual title at the UC San Diego Triton Classic on Saturday. The win marked Hogan's third career individual title as the Aztecs finished in second place at the meet.
Hogan completed the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 6.1 seconds, more than eight seconds ahead of the next collegiate finisher Lisa Ohberg of Cal State Los Angeles (22:14.6). The Bedford, Quebec, native defeated 238 other runners and also improved upon her time from last season's Triton invite by more than five second (22:01.8).
Freshman Laura Vazquez continued her impressive inaugural collegiate season by finishing in fifth place with a time of 22:30.7. Also finishing in the top 20 for SDSU was senior Josefine Koskinen, crossing the finish line in the 20th spot (23:15.7).
A quartet of freshmen were the next San Diego State runners to finish, leading off with Chelsea Kruthers (28th, 23:36.4), followed by Hannah Sawatzki (47th, 24:02.4), Rachel Roesgen (48th, 24:03.5) and Jessica McCall (51st, 24:05.6). Also competing for SDSU was sophomore Katy Smith (97th, 24:53.1), freshman Lily Mayko (111th, 25:04.3), sophomore Melissa Wendorf (149th, 25:47.5), junior Amanda Okun (153rd, 25:54.6) and junior Amy Reaser (173rd, 26:53.3).
As a team the Aztecs finished second of 22 teams with 95 points, finishing only behind Loyola Marymount (71 points). The host Tritons finished third with 99 points on the day.
San Diego State gets back into action on Oct. 19, as the team travels to race at the Fullerton Invitational.
