RENO, Nev. (AP) - Backup quarterback Adam Dingwell threw three touchdown passes and a two-point conversion in overtime that gave San Diego State a 39-38 victory over Nevada on Saturday.
Subbing for starter Ryan Katz, who went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter, Dingwell completed 14 of 23 passes for 177 yards.
After Nevada (6-2, 3-1 Mountain West) went up 38-31 in overtime on a 3-yard TD pass from Cody Fajardo to Brandon Wimberly, the Aztecs needed two plays to pull to within 38-37, scoring on a 21-yard pass from Dingwell to Gavin Escobar. The Aztecs elected to go for the win and Dingwell sealed it with a pass to Adam Roberts in the corner of the end zone for the successful two-point conversion.
San Diego State (5-3, 3-1) trailed 31-28 and tied it on a 35-yard field goal by Chance Marden as time expired in regulation to force overtime.
Fajardo completed 29 of 40 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns for Nevada. Two of the touchdowns were to Wimberly, who finished with 10 catches for 132 yards. Fajardo also rushed for a touchdown, a 5-yard keeper that put the Wolf Pack up 17-6 with 8:43 left in the third quarter.
Nevada's Stefphon Jefferson, the nation's leading rusher finished with 108 yards on 32 carries, and a 1-yard touchdown run that put Nevada up 31-21 with 7:46 left in the game.
Nevada led 10-6 at halftime, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Fajardo to Aaron Bradley with 5 seconds left in the first half.
The Aztecs had a pair of field goals from Marden, one from 39 yards and one from 46-yards, a career-high for Marden, which put them up 6-3 with 4:22 left in the second quarter.
