PALO ALTO, Calif. - The San Diego State women's cross country team was led by senior Marianne Hogan on Saturday at the 39th Stanford Invitational. The Bedford, Quebec native completed the 6,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 45 seconds to finish 28th of 292 runners. Hogan finished behind winner, Stanford's Kathy Kroeger (20:13), who once again claimed victory at the Cardinal home meet after finishing first in the 38th edition of race.
Laura Vazquez and Josefine Koskinen finished 2-3 on the team for the second straight meet, taking 63rd (22:15) and 85th (22:30), respectively. Koskinen posted a personal record in the 6K by improving on her former best time of 23:03 which was recorded on Nov. 12, 2011, at the NCAA West Regionals, also in Palo Alto, Calif.
Chelsea Kruthers (169th, 23:27) and Rachel Roesgen (213th, 24:07) rounded out the Aztecs top five runners.
As a team, SDSU took 18th with 483 points. San Diego State dramatically improved on last season's showing in Palo Alto, Calif., when the Aztecs finished 26th with 724 points. The host Stanford won the 29-team invitational with an impressive 25 points.
SDSU heads to the UCSD Triton Classic Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 6), beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
