The Aztec will host Mountain West foe UNLV on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex. It will be the first of six dual meets against conference opposition during the 2012-13 season. Since all nine league teams will not face each other this year, there will be no regular-season standings and no regular-season champion will be determined.
HEAD COACH Mike Shrader
San Diego State head coach Mike Shrader is in his sixth season with the Aztecs and has compiled a dual meet record of 66-13 (.836) during his tenure. Shrader was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year each of the past three seasons (co-coach in 2009). Including eight seasons as the head coach at Nevada, his career record stands at 155-25-1 (.859).

In its opening meet of the season, SDSU defeated the University of San Diego, 72-21, in a pentathlon meet at the Aztec Aquaplex on Sept. 21. Swimmers from both teams swam five events (100 free. fly, breast and back plus the 100 IM) with total times determining placings. The top six swimmers from each school counted toward the team point totals.
For the second straight year, SDSU junior Mikaela Macklin was the individual pentathlon champion as her time of 4:54.06 edged teammate Leona Jennings 4:56.87) by just over two seconds. Macklin finished second in four races and was third in the 100 fly. Aztec swimmers captured the top eight places in the final standings including Meghan Zimmer (3rd-4:59.42), Natilee Ruiz (4th-5:03.71(, Savannah Mille (5th-5:04.56), Gemma Johnson (6th-5:04.91), Melanie Garibaldi (7th-5:05.52) and Loreen Whitfield (8th-5:06.78).

THE STREAK CONTINUES
With its victory over the University of San Diego last week, SDSU has now won its last 39 straight meets dating back to the 2009-10 season. Its last loss came against Wyoming on Jan. 29, 2010, in Laramie. San Diego State also has a streak of 51 straight wins against non-conference opponents. The last loss to a non-MWC team was a defeat at North Texas on Nov. 17, 2006. In current Head Coach Mike Shrader's four seasons at SDSU, the Aztecs have not lost a dual meet to a non-conference foe.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
San Diego State completed its second consecutive undefeated home season during its 2011-12 campaign with a 10-0. The Aztecs have now won their last 28 consecutive meets at home. SDSU's record at the Aztec Aquaplex stands at 39-3 since the facility opened for the 2007-08 season.
AQUAPLEX TIMES
Two swimmers turned in times during the Pentathlon meet against University San Diego that rank among the top 10 in the history of the Aztec Aquaplex. Senior Meghan Zimmer's mark of 52.02 in the 100 free ranks as the10th-fastest time at the facility. In addition, senior Melanie Garibaldi went 1:52.36 in the 200 freestyle, a time that ranks 10th on the list of best times at the Aquaplex.
AZTEC RECORD HOLDERS
A trio of swimmers returns for the Aztecs this season who set school records in various events a year ago. That threesome includes Gemma Johnson (100 fly record - 53.71), Taylor Lakey (200 butterfly record - 2:00.60) and Melanie Garibaldi (400 IM record - 4:16.75). Of the 14 individual swimming events, current members of the SDSU squad hold school records in 12 of them. The only two SDSU records not held by current Aztecs are for the 50 and 100 freestyle.
