SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's lacrosse head coach Kylee White announced the hiring of Brandi Jones as the program's assistant coach on Friday. The Aztecs will begin their second season on Montezuma Mesa this spring.

"I am excited to welcome Brandi to the SDSU Lacrosse family," White said. "She brings a lot of knowledge with her playing and coaching experience under some of the best coaches in the nation. Her contagious enthusiasm and ultra-competitive drive follows suit with the vision of this program."

Jones comes to the Aztecs after one season as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont. While a member of the coaching staff, the former Maryland standout helped head coach Jen Johnson lead the Catamounts to a school-record nine wins. UVM also had a program-best six Catamounts earn America East All-Conference honors. Before her time at Vermont, Jones spent the fall as a volunteer assistant coach for SDSU.

"It's great to be back in my hometown of San Diego," Jones said. "I am excited for the opportunity to use my past coaching and playing experience to help guide SDSU as it develops into a powerhouse in the West."

A four-year letterwinner at the University of Maryland, Jones started at midfielder and helped lead the Terps to the 2010 National Championship as well as three straight ACC titles (2009-11). The native of Poway, Calif., was also named to the 2011 NCAA All-Tournament Team along with garnering all-ACC honors and being named an IWLCA All-American in 2009.

Jones was instrumental in Maryland's championship run in 2010, tallying 22 goals and 13 assists as one of the top scoring threats for the Terps. In the national championship game, Jones scored twice and handed out an assist in Maryland's win against Northwestern. Also of note, her sister (Brittany) was on the team when Jones played for the Terps.

Prior to Maryland, Jones was a four-sport star at Poway High School in lacrosse, volleyball, basketball as well as track and field. In lacrosse, she earned all-CIF honors on three occasions and was named CIF Player of the Year twice. Jones was also a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and she was tabbed as an Under Armour All-American in 2007.

Jones is a 2011 graduate of Maryland, earning a bachelor's degree in family science.
