HEPTATHLON RESULTS | DAY 3 RESULTS
San Diego State sophomore Allison Reaser set a school record en route to a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Reaser improved three places on the final day of the two-day event to take sixth of 24 entrants with a total of 5,753 points. She bettered the previous school record mark of 5,751, set by Aja Makaila Frary in 2001. Reaser was just eight points behind fifth-place finisher Keia Pennick of Arizona State. Oregon's Brianne Theisen won the event with a meet-record total of 6,440 points
Reaser began her second day in the long jump, taking fourth with a leap of 19 feet, 6 ¾ inches (5.96 meters). It was her second-best mark of the season.
Reaser also impressed in the javelin, taking sixth with a throw of 132-00 (40.25m). It was a personal-best mark for Reaser, eclipsing her previous best of 131-02 on May 10 at the Mountain West Championships.
Reaser closed her day in the 800-meter run, taking 13th with a time of 2 minutes, 17.45 seconds. It was a PR (previous best was 2:19.37) and the second-fastest 800 by an Aztec this season. She came into the weekend ranked 11th in the event.
Whitney Ashley, who on Wednesday became the fourth individual NCAA champion in program history and the first since 1985, took 13th in the shot put today with a toss of 53-09.25 (16.39m). The mark came on her first throw of the day. She followed with a foul and a throw of 53-02.75 (16.22m). Ashley came into the weekend ranked fourth in the event.
Reaser's three points moved SDSU into a tie for 11th place with 13.00 points, along with Arizona State and Texas. LSU and Oregon leads the pack after 14 of 21 events with 40 points apiece.
Shanieka Thomas and Alex Evans wrap things up for San Diego State on Saturday in the triple jump. Thomas qualified for the meet after finishing second of 48 at in the prelims two weeks ago in Austin, Texas, with a leap of 44-08.00. It was the second-best mark in program history, trailing only Karoline Koehler's mark of 44-09.00 set in 2009. The 44-08.00 has her ranked third heading into the meet. This will be Thomas' first appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, but she did take seventh in the triple jump at the 2012 indoor championships and ninth at the 2011 indoor meet.
Evans will be making her first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships after tying for 11th two weeks ago in the west prelims with a leap of 41-08.50. It was the fifth-best mark in program history. Evans heads into the meet ranked in a tie for 23rd.
