SAN DIEGO - Freshman Alexa Evans will represent San Diego State at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Bloomington, Ind.
Evans, who redshirted her first season as an Aztec this year, will compete in the discus throw at the junior national meet after qualifying with a mark of 160 feet, 1 inch (48.79m). That has her ranked 15th of the 24 entrants, according to the USATF website.
The discus throw gets underway at 5:45 p.m. ET Friday.
The meet will serve as a qualifier for this year's IAAF World Junior Championships. Top performers will be part of the American team that will compete in Barcelona, Spain, from July 10-15.
Evans earned four letters at local West Hills High School in Santee, Calif., racking up 61 wins over her career in the shot put and the discus throw. Evans won three conference titles and three San Diego CIF Masters Championships, owning high school personal-marks of 158-03 in the discus and 41-06 in the shot put.
