COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore Allison Reaser leads the heptathlon after the first day of the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday at the Cadet Outdoor Track & Field Complex in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Reaser won three of the four events, all in personal-best marks, to total 3,355 points, 271 more than runner-up Cate Brus of Colorado State (3,084). Her total of 3,355 points is the most she has ever had after the first day of the heptathlon. Alexi Morton of Boise State is in third with 3,038 points.
Reaser began the day by winning the 100-meter hurdles by almost a second in 13.56 seconds. It was a 0.21-second PR (personal record) and 0.84 seconds faster than Wyoming's Jenna Mann (14.40). The impressive run gave her 1,041 points.
Reaser then tied UNLV's Rita Rudell and Taylar Mills for third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch. It tied a season-best mark and gave her 678 additional points.
Reaser followed with a win in the shot put with a toss of 39-06.50. It was a PR by more than a foot (38-05.50) and beat runner-up Rudell by almost five feet (34-07.00). She added 664 points with the impressive performance.
Reaser ended the first day of the two-day event in the 200, crushing the field in 24.09. It was 0.18 seconds faster than her previous PR and 1.43 seconds better than Mann (25.52). The 24.09 clocking gave her 972 more points and the commanding first-day lead.
Reaser, who won last year's heptathlon and is a two-time MW indoor pentathlon champion, will close out the heptathlon Thursday with the long jump (12:30 p.m. MT), javelin and 800.
