SAN DIEGO - San Diego State lacrosse players Madison Wallace (Chantilly, Va.) and Meris Walsh (Easton, Md.) have been named to the all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team, the league announced late last night after its annual banquet. Both Wallace and Walsh earned second-team accolades.
"I'm extremely proud of these two student-athletes," head coach Kylee White said. "It's nice to see their hard work and dedication recognized by the conference coaches. These awards not only acknowledge the efforts of the individuals but the efforts of the team and the foundation we have built."
A defender, Wallace was one of just three freshmen on either all-conference team. She was the Aztecs' mark-up defender and responsible for guarding the opposing team's best attacker. Additionally, Wallace was crucial in the team's transition game. She started all 15 games for SDSU, registering 25 ground balls, 12 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.
An attack, Walsh led San Diego State with 50 points on 47 goals. She also topped the Aztecs in shots (99), shots on goal (76) and free position goals (14). Among the MPSF leaders, Walsh ranked third in goals per game (3.13) and shots per game (6.60), ninth in points per game (3.33). She also became the first SDSU player to be named the MPSF Player of the Week on March 5 after scoring a program-record seven goals in the team's 11-10 win over Saint Mary's on March 3. The seven goals tied the most by a MPSF player since 2009.
San Diego State finished its inaugural season with a 5-10 record. The Aztecs were 2-5 in conference play, which tied them for fifth of eight teams.
