Five athletes finished among the top 10 in their respective event and two posted all-time top-10 times at San Diego State to lead the Aztec track and field team Friday at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays.
All three pole vaulters that competed finished in the top six in their event. Kelsy Hintz tied for fifth in the open-A U/O section of 16 entrants when she cleared 13 feet, 1 ½ inches. It was the best pole vault mark by an SDSU athlete this season.
In the open-C U/O section, Holly Waseloff took second of 17 entrants with a vault of 12-09.50. The mark bettered last week's height of 12-09.00 and put her into sole possession of ninth place on the school's all-time list. Moriah Roberge also competed in the open-C U/O section and was sixth with a season-best mark of 12-01.50.
In the jumps, Shanieka Thomas finished ninth in the long jump (open U/O) with an outdoor personal-best leap of 19-00.75, while Alex Evans was 11th in the triple jump (open U/O) in 39-08.75.
Jasmine Burrell finished with a huge collegiate PR (personal record) in the shot put with a toss of 49-06.25. It gave her a 10th-place finish in the open U/O section and was the fifth-best mark in program history (her previous best was 46-06.25, set April 1 at the Cal/Nevada Championships).
On the track, Josefine Koskinen finished 57th of 91 in the open U/O 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 11.81 seconds.
As of press time, results for the discus throw elite invitational, that was supposed to feature Whitney Ashley and Burrell, at Mt. SAC Relays and the hammer throw (Ellie Fanaika) at the Beach Invitational were not yet posted.
San Diego State wraps up its long week tomorrow with most of the team competing at the Beach Invitational and a few at Mt. SAC Relays.
