CLAREMONT, Calif. - Three athletes won their respective events to give the San Diego State track and field team its second consecutive Cal/Nevada Championships title Sunday in Claremont, Calif.

The Aztecs finished with 130 points, five ahead of runner-up Long Beach State (125), despite not having Whitney Ashley compete in the discus throw (where she finished seventh en route to first-team All-America honors last year at the NCAA Outdoor Championships) or not running Allison Reaser in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles (where she was second in the preliminary heats on Saturday).

Ashley, Reaser and Shanieka Thomas all won their events on the final day of the two-day championship meet. Ashley beat out 26 others in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 53 feet, ½ inches. It was the second-best mark in program history.

Reaser, meanwhile, captured the 100-meter hurdles title with a time of 13.94 seconds. Reaser, who won the long jump in 19-01.50 yesterday, beat out eight other participants in today's 100 hurdles final.

Thomas made her outdoor debut a good one by winning the triple jump in 42-11.00. It was the third-best mark in program history. Additionally, she beat out 20 other entrants.

Other top-five finishes on the day went to Jasmine Burrell in the discus throw (second, 186-04) with the third-best mark in school history and the shot put (third, 46-06.25) with the ninth-best toss ever by an SDSU athlete.

Additionally, Alex Evans was third in the triple jump (40-09.50), Josefine Koskinen was fifth in the 800 (2:11.16) and Brittany Gonter was fifth in the shot put (45-09.25).

San Diego State is off next weekend before heading to Tempe, Ariz., to battle Arizona State and LSU in a tri-meet on April 14.
