SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Allison Reaser won three of the four events on the first day of the heptathlon to jump out to a 120-point lead Thursday at the Aztec Invitational.
Reaser leads the 14 competitors with 3,269 points after four of the seven events. Unattached competitor Shaye Maurer is second with 3,149 points, while Utah's Brianna LeRoy (3,135) is in third.
Reaser began the day by winning the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 13.80 seconds. The time was 0.29 seconds faster than runner-up Maurer and gave Reaser 1,007 points.
Reaser followed the 100 hurdles with the high jump, where she tied for eighth by clearing 5 feet, 1 inch. The 5-01.00 got her an additional 678 points.
Reaser came back to win the shot put with a toss of 38-02.00, more than two feet further than Southern Utah's Cheyenne Thatcher (36-00.75). The mark was just 3.25 inches shy of a PR (personal record) and gave her 637 points.
Reaser ended the day with a victory in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.35. It was just off a PR (24.30) and gave her 947 more points in the final event of the first day.
The final three events of the heptathlon with be contested on Friday, beginning with the long jump at 10 a.m. PT, and followed by the javelin (11 a.m. PT) and the 800 meters (12:10 p.m. PT).
