SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men's tennis team continued its 2011-12 season on Friday as it played host to the Aztec Fall Invitational at the Aztec Tennis Center.

In doubles action, Hunter Nicholas and Jose Sierra Short defeated the Sacramento State duo of Marek Marksoo and Roy Brandys by the score of 8-5. Shiva Sangwan and Andranik Khachatryan, meanwhile, were also 8-5 winners against Garrett Taylor and Andrew Raphaelson of USD. The Aztec duo of Thorsten Bertsch and Freddy Gelbrich picked up the 9-7 victory against Alex Clinkenbeard and Luke Manley of the University of Denver.

In singles play, Sierra Short was victorious, 6-3, 6-2, in his tilt with Manley. Bertsch was also victorious, downing Diego Tavera, 6-1, 7-5, of Point Loma Nazarene. Khachatryan followed both Sierra Short and Bertsch's lead as he downed USD's Andrew Carlisle, 6-4, 6-2. Wrapping up play for the Aztecs in the black flight bracket, Sangwan dropped a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision to Othar Kordsachia of the University of Denver.

In the red flight bracket, Gelbrich posted the 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) win against Marksoo. Hunter Nicholas, meanwhile, dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to University of Denver's Fabio Biasion.

The Aztec Fall Invitational continues tomorrow at the Aztec Tennis Center.
