SAN DIEGO - Freddy Gelbrich picked up the championship in flight three singles on Sunday as the San Diego State men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
Gelbrich, who picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win on Saturday against New Mexico's Ian Supple, was named champion on Sunday after defeating Jeremy Quiroz of Fresno State by the score of 6-3, 6-3 in the final match of the singles draw.
In consolation singles play, Thorsten Bertsch also picked up two victories. The Mannheim, Germany native defeated Justin Archer of Utah, 6-1, 6-2 and pocketed a 6-1, 7-5 win against New Mexico's Matthew Neeld.
In two additional matches, Derek Siddiqui pushed New Mexico's Mitch McDaniels to three sets in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win. Jose Sierra Short was also victorious, defeating Hall Fess of Arkansas by the score of 6-2, 6-3.
The Aztecs will now prepare for the Southern California Intercollegiate as play gets underway on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in Los Angeles, Calif.
