SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Diego State stretched its dual meet winning streak to 25 with a168-130 victory at Cal Poly Friday afternoon. The win improved to Aztec to 3-0 on the season as they captured 10 of the meets 16 events.
Sophomore swimmer Kelly Marquenie and senior diver Kristen Meier won two individual events apiece to lead the Aztecs on the day. Marquenie captured both the 100 free (52.10) and 200 free (1:50.71) with her time in the 100 ranking as the 10th-fastest in SDSU history. Meier took first in both diving events, scoring 256.95 in the 1-meter and 283.70 in the 3-meter.
The Aztecs opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Lauren Whitfield and Gemma Johnson swam a 1:44 78. That time goes into the Aztec record book as the eighth-fastest ever.
Johnson also won the 100 fly for the second met in row as she went 56.17. She was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay squad that won in a time of 1:36.15, seventh-fastest in program history.
Other individual winners for San Diego State included Melanie Garibaldi in the 1000 free (10:18.17), Leona Jennings in the 100 back (57.05) and Stephanie Koch in the 50 free (24.04).
San Diego State and Cal Poly will square off in another dual meet on Saturday (Oct. 22) at the Mustangs' Anderson Aquatic Center at 10:00 a.m.
