SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Marianne Hogan won the 67th annual Aztec Invitational Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
Hogan completed the 5,000-meter cross country course in 18 minutes, 21.9 seconds, easily outdistancing runner-up Erica Capellino of USC (18:27.8). Hogan defeated 71 collegiate runners and four unattached athletes. It was her second career victory (2010 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational).
Hogan's win helped the Aztecs to a fifth-place finish of eight teams. Biola University took first with 43 points, followed by UCLA (54), USC (81), UNLV (96) and SDSU (140). Point Loma (155), UC San Diego (156) and San Diego Mesa College (257) rounded out the team competition.
Josefine Koskinen was the next San Diego State athlete to cross the finish line as she took 21st in 19:30.6. Taylor Johnson made her Aztec XC debut and finished 37th (20:11.3), as did Megan Hughes (44th, 20:36.3), Hannah Carmen (47th, 20:38.7), Melissa Wendorf (53rd, 21:07.7), Kaitlyn Harrison (54th, 21:08.3), Niki Novak (57th, 21:25.4) and Monique Martinez (60th, 21:47.6).
Amanda Okun was 61st (21:49.5), while Amy Reaser (21:54.4), Sabrina Rathor (22:14.2) and Hannah Winokur (22:42.3) finished 63rd, 67th and 69th, respectively.
San Diego State heads to the Stanford Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 24).
