MIRAMAR, Fla. - San Diego State's Allison Reaser sits in fourth place after the first day of the heptathlon at the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla. Reaser has compiled 3,082 points after four of the seven events, 439 behind the first day leader Tamara Souza (3,521) of Brazil.
Reaser, who earned the right to compete in the Pan American Junior Games after winning the U.S. Junior Championships last month, began the day in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.34 seconds, the third-fastest time of the seven competitors. The time of 14.34 was good enough for 931 points.
Reaser followed up the 100-meter hurdles in the high jump, where she cleared 4 feet, 10 ½ inches. The mark tied for sixth on the day and added 610 points to her total.
In the afternoon session, Reaser took third in the shot put with a toss of 36-11 ¾, good for 613 additional points.
Reaser wrapped up the first day in the 200-meter dash, where she took third with a 24.56 clocking. The 928 points was her second-best performance of the day and put her at 3,082 with three events left to go tomorrow (Sunday).
The long jump (10 a.m. ET) will kick things off for the heptathletes on Sunday, followed by the javelin throw (11:15 a.m. ET) and 800 (5:10 p.m. ET).
