FORT WORTH, Texas - San Diego State senior Ryan Lindley has been named to the 2011 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced today.

The 6-4 signal-caller is among 38 of the nation's top collegiate quarterbacks and one of two players from the Mountain West who were selected based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2011 college football season.

Lindley returns for his fourth year as SDSU's starter and has already amassed 9,537 career passing yards and 67 touchdowns in 36 contests. The Alpine, Calif., product had his best season a year ago, throwing for 3,830 yards and 28 TDs to lead the Mountain West in passing (294.6 ypg.) and total offense (292.2 ypg.). Lindley was a second-team all-conference selection as a junior and enters 2011 within striking distance of the school's all-time career passing record, currently held by Todd Santos (11,425).

The recipient of the 2011 Davey O'Brien Award will be announced live on ESPN along with other National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) member awards on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The O'Brien honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics.

Former Aztec Adam Hall was on the preseason watch list for the award in 2003.

Candidates for the 2011 Doak Walker Award were also announced today with sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman being tabbed as a nominee. San Diego State is one of 19 schools in the country to have a quarterback and running back nominated for both the Davey O'Brien and Doak Walker awards.
