SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team has been projected to earn its second consecutive bowl berth in the Athlon Sports 2011 College Football Preview. The publication is predicting a bid to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., on Dec. 26.

Athlon Sports, meanwhile, tabbed running back Ronnie Hillman in its 20-player Heisman Watch. The 5-foot-10-inch sophomore was also named to the preseason all-MWC first-team offense and the third-team All-America team.

Hillman ended his freshman campaign with 1,532 rushing yards, the most in Mountain West history and the fifth most in program history. The MWC freshman of the year was named the 2010 Poinsettia Bowl Offensive MVP, when he rushed for a bowl-record 228 yards and four total touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) as the Aztecs defeated Navy, 35-14. It was his sixth game with 150 or more rushing yards and second with at least 200 yards.

Seven more Aztecs were also named to the preseason all-MWC first and second teams as SDSU was picked to finish fourth in the conference. Senior linebacker Miles Burris and junior cornerback Leon McFadden earned first-team recognition on defense, while seniors Abel Perez and Brian Stahovich were named first-team specialists.

Senior quarterback Ryan Lindley, sophomore tight end Gavin Escobar and junior offensive lineman Nik Embernate, meanwhile, were selected to the offensive second team.

The SDSU football team is coming off of its most successful season in recent memory, finishing the 2010 campaign with a 9-4 record.

Season tickets can be purchased online through GoAztecs.com, over the phone by calling (619) 283-7378, or by visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window "E." The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

With renewals and season-ticket holders purchasing additional tickets, San Diego State has already surpassed its 2010 season-ticket total.
