SAN DIEGO - As the men's tennis team takes on Mountain West Conference rival BYU at 11 a.m. this Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center, head coach Gene Carswell hopes a little incentive for students will draw a big-time crowd: free pizza will be available to current SDSU students who present a valid Red ID.
"Without a doubt, we'd love to get a good crowd out here," said Carswell following Thursday's 6-1 victory over Utah. "We want to get some spectators and show people what a good college tennis match is all about. I can promise you that you'll see some good tennis on Saturday."
BYU (15-4; 2-0 MWC) enters Saturday tied for first in the MWC and ranked 36th nationally. The Cougars defeated the Aztecs, 4-0, back on Jan. 29 in Los Angeles in the only other meeting between the two teams this year.
"It's definitely going to be a fight," said Carswell. "We feel privileged to have them on our home court and we have to take advantage of that opportunity. We're going to have to come after them and be ready to fight all day."
Freshman Hunter Nicholas shares Carswell's view on the topic.
"It's going to be a dog fight," said Nicholas. "They're a good team. We've been looking a lot better lately and the confidence from the Utah win is going to carry over. Hopefully we'll get the `W.'"
