LOS ANGELES - Freshman Allison Reaser sits in first place after four events of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, which began Thursday at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
Reaser, who won the pentathlon at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last month, has 3,300 points after the first day with three events still left to go on Friday. Reaser posted the best times in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200 meters, and excelled in the other two events to take a commanding lead by 136 points over unattached competitor Sable Otey.
Reaser started the day with a 100-meter hurdle time of 13.83 seconds, the fastest time by an Aztec this season. In the high jump, Reaser cleared 5 feet, 2 ½ inches.
Reaser followed in the shot put with a toss of 38-03.75, an outdoor personal-best mark. It even bettered her indoor best distance of 36-11.50. Reaser finished her day in the 200, clocking a time of 24.49, a personal-best mark and the third-fastest time by an SDSU athlete this season.
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow, while others will compete at both the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational and the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
