IRVINE, Calif. - Kelsy Hintz won the pole vault to lead the San Diego State track and field team on the first day of the Steve Scott Invitational Saturday in Irvine, Calif.
Hintz defeated 33 others in the event, clearing a height of 13 feet, 2 ¼ inches. It was Hintz' second win of the season and third straight meet she's cleared 13-0. Hintz, a sophomore, has never finished worse than fourth in the outdoor season and owns a personal-best mark of 13-06.25 (T-4th all-time at SDSU), set last week at the UCSD Triton Invitational.
Also in the pole vault, Katie Vo (seventh) and Holly Waseloff (eighth) each cleared 11-09.00 with Waseloff setting a collegiate best in the event.
In the hammer throw, Ellie Fanaika set a collegiate best with a toss of 170-05, the third-best throw in school history. Fanaika's throw gave her an eighth-place finish of 37 competitors.
Allison Reaser, meanwhile, was seventh in the javelin with a collegiate-best throw of 115-10, while Julianne Alarcio took 12th in the long jump in 18-03.25.
Marianne Hogan led the Aztecs on the track with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Hogan, the indoor school record-holder in the event, completed the distance in 17 minutes, 40.88 seconds. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Sara Beyers took ninth in 11:33.94.
Day two of the Steve Scott Invitational begins on Sunday at noon PT.
