AMES, Iowa/SAN DIEGO - Shanae Roach and Shanieka Thomas both improved their marks at the Iowa State NCAA Indoor Qualifier, while six other Aztecs won events at the San Diego City Championships outdoor meet on Saturday.

At the NCAA qualifier meet, Roach improved her 60-meter time to 7.37 seconds, the second-best mark in program history. She finished second in the finals after taking runner-up honors in the preliminary heat (7.47). Roach also competed in the 200, but her second-place time of 23.70 did not better her school-record mark of 23.45 set last week at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships.

Also in Ames, Iowa, Thomas bettered her triple jump mark to 42 feet, 3 ½ inches to win the event. The 42-03.50 is the third-best indoor triple jump in school history.

At the city championships, SDSU took second after sending a small contingent of athletes to La Jolla.

San Diego State continued its domination in the pole vault, capturing the first eight places in the event, led by first-place finisher Moriah Roberge. Roberge cleared 12 feet, 6 inches to set a new collegiate outdoor personal best. Katie Vo joined Roberge at 12-06.00 for a second-place finish and personal record, while Kelsy Hintz was third at 12-02.00.

In the throws, freshman Lima Lefiti won the shot put in her collegiate debut with a toss of 44-04.75, and Jeanette McConnell won the discus (155-06).

On the track, Marianne Hogan won the 3,000 meters with a time of 9 minutes, 57.88 seconds, just outside the school's top-10 list, while Sara Beyers was first in the 1,500 (4:44.21).

Thoraya Maronsey was the Aztecs' other winner with a leap of 38-01.50 in the triple jump.

Other top-three finishes on the day came from Allison Reaser (second, 24.54) and Kiersten Kirkland (third, 26.15) in the 200, Niki Novak (second, 2:15.20) in the 800, Kirkland (14.52) in the 100 hurdles, Laura Boggeln (39-11.50) in the shot put and Whitney Ashley (147-10) in the hammer throw.

Roach and Thomas will await a possible NCAA indoor bid, which takes place on March 11-12, in College Station, Texas, while the team will host the Aztec Invitational from March 17-19.
