Austin, Texas - San Diego State sophomore Katelyn Weddle wrapped up the Aztecs' stay at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas, as she competed in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday in. Her teammate, freshman Kelly Marquenie, was scheduled to swim the 1650 freestyle, but was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.
Weddle turned in a time of 2:14.66 in her 200 breast race. Her finish was not fast enough to advance out of the time trials as her overall standing was 47th of the 51 swimmers in the event.
The participation of Weddle and Marquenie marked the second straight year that SDSU has sent a pair of swimmers to the national championship meet. It was Marquenie's first appearance in the event while Weddle returned after qualifying last season along with fellow Aztec Leona Jennings.
The conclusion of the NCAA Championships caps off what has been the SDSU swim program's finest season. This past year the Aztecs recorded their highest dual meet win total finishing an undefeated dual meet campaign with a 19-0 record. In addition to winning the regular-season league title they also captured the team title at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championships and were ranked 23rd in the nation.
