THIS WEEK
The San Diego State swimming and diving team will conclude its dual meet season when it travels across town to face the University of San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 5, at noon at the USD Sports Center Pool.

AZTECS ENJOYING BEST SEASON EVER
San Diego State will be trying to cap off a perfect dual meet season if it can pick up a victory at USD this weekend. The Aztecs will enter the meet with an overall record of 18-0. SDSU's 18 wins this season is a record for the swimming and diving program. The previous high was 14 set last season. The team's previous best winning percentage for a season came last year when it went 14-3 for an .824 mark.

SDSU CAPTURES MWC DUAL MEET TITLE
With the win over Wyoming on Jan. 28, San Diego State claimed its first-ever Mountain West Conference regular season dual meet championship. Prior to the 2010-11 campaign, the team's best MWC season came last year when it finished the season in third place with a 5-3 record.

HEAD COACH MIKE SHRADER
SDSU head coach Mike Shrader is in his fourth season with the Aztecs and has compiled a dual meet record of 49-13 (.790) during his tenure. Shrader was named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year at the conclusion of MWC championship meet each of the past two seasons (co-coach in 2009). His career record including eight seasons at Nevada stands at 138-25-1 (.845).

LAST TIME OUT
The Aztecs recorded dual meet wins over Hawai'i (152-144) and UC San Diego (207-86) in a meet on Saturday, Jan. 29, at UCSD that also included swimmers from Wyoming. Six Canyonview Aquatics Center pool records were set by SDSU athletes over the course of the meet. That list included Kelly Marquette (200 and 500 freestyle), Melanie Garibaldi (1000 Free), Emile Jennings (100 butterfly), Leona Jennings (100 backstroke) and Stephanie Koch (100 freestyle).

The previous day (Friday, Jan. 28), San Diego State concluded its 2010-11 Mountain West Conference schedule with a 161-128 victory over Wyoming at the Aztec Aquaplex. Four Aztecs won two events apiece including Marquenie (500 and 100 free), Leona Jennings (100 and 200 back), Koch (100 and 200 free) and Kristen Meier (1-meter and 3-meter diving). Marquenie set Aquaplex records in both the 500 and 100 free while Kim Bierwith and Koch set pool records in the 50 and 100 free respectively.

MWC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Kelly Marquenie was named the MWC Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season after setting four pool records in San Diego State's meets vs. Wyoming, Hawai'i and UC San Diego. She swept the freestyle distance events against the Cowgirls on Friday, setting a school and Aztec Aquaplex record in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 9:53.71. She also broke a pool record in the 500 free (4:51.56) to help the Aztecs defeat Wyoming, 161-128, en route to the team's first-ever MWC regular-season title. On Saturday at UC San Diego, Marquenie won the 200 free in 1:51.99 to set a new all-time best at the Canyonview Aquatics Center. She added another facility record to her list of accomplishments by winning the 500 free in 4:56.55.

MWC DIVER OF THE WEEK
Junior Kristen Meier picked her fourth conference Diver of the Week award this season after posting four NCAA zone-qualifying scores over the weekend. On Friday, the junior scored 305.03 on the 3-meter springboard to win the event and tallied a mark of 297.98 to lead all divers on the 1-meter springboard. On Saturday, Meier finished second of 13 competitors on the 3-meter board with her score of 289.75. She concluded the weekend posting 272.90 points on the 1-meter to place fourth in a field of 14 divers.

NON-CONFERENCE WIN STREAK CONTINUES
With last weekend's three dual meet wins, SDSU extended its streak of 35 straight dual meet victories against non-conference opponents. The last loss to a non-MWC team was a defeat at North Texas on Nov. 17, 2006. In head coach Mike Shrader's three-plus seasons, the Aztecs have not lost to a non-conference foe.

UP NEXT
Following the meet at the University of San Diego on Saturday, SDSU will have just over two weeks to prepare for the annual Mountain West Conference Championship Meet to be held at Oklahoma City Community College Feb. 23-26.
