SAN DIEGO - Ninth-ranked San Diego State wrapped up first-day action at the UCSD Invitational with a 10-8 victory over No. 11 UC Irvine. The Aztecs, who beat Sonoma State earlier in the day, improve to 7-1 with the decision.

SDSU trailed 1-0 after the first eight minutes, but responded with three goals in the second frame to go into halftime tied, 3-3.

In the third quarter, the Aztecs netted four goals, while allowing three, setting up an exciting finish to the last game of the day. With San Diego State ahead, 7-6, entering the fourth, the Aztecs outscored the Anteaters, 3-2, in the deciding quarter to emerge with the 10-8 decision.

Alex Ford led all players with five goals and was joined in the scoring column by Leanne Ford, Ashley Novack, Meghann Pedersen, Amber Pezzolla and Sam Voigt, who all scored single goals.

Once again, Kelly Campoli was strong in goal, stopping two shots.

San Diego State returns to action on Sunday against No. 3 UCLA at 11:10 a.m. at UCSD's Triton Pool.
