SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State swimming & diving team added a pair of wins to its season resume as it defeated Tulane (105-85) and Northern Colorado (107-87) in a double dual meet at the Aztec Aquaplex Friday afternoon. The Aztecs recorded the top times in all nine swimming events and also captured first place in both diving competitions.
SDSU improved to 10-0 on the year as it ran its current dual meet winning streak to 13 dating back to late January of last season. The Aztecs have now won 30 straight non-conference matches as well, a streak that goes back to the 2006-07 season.
San Diego State got Friday's meet off to a fine start by taking the top two places in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Brooke Vessey, Emilee Jennings, Kim Bierwith and Stephanie Koch won in 1:47.11, the 10th-fastest time for the event at the Aquaplex. Second place went to the Aztec team of Allison Stuhr, Taylor Yamagata, Mikaela Macklin and Leona Jennings in 1:48.72.
Jessica Crider (10:24.76) and Lauren Parrett (10:29.62) then finished one-two in the 1000 free with teammate Meghan Zimmer fourth in 10:32.35.
Sophomore Leona Jennings captured the first of her two individual top finishes with a 57.26 in the 100 butterfly. She later took top honors in the 400 individual medley with a mark of 4:29.86.
Senior Emilee Jennings was also a double winner on the day as she took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of (1:08.08) and also had the top time the 100 individual medley (58.51).
In the 100 backstroke, Brooke Vessey went 58.83 to win the race in her first attempt at the vent this season. The senior would later record the second-fastest time of the afternoon in the 100 individual medley (59.69).
The Aztecs' other individual first-place finish came in the 100 free where freshman Kelly Marquenie went 52.44. SDSU finished off the meet by turning in the top time in the 800 freestyle relay as Melanie Garibaldi, Jessica Crider, Mikalea Macklin and Marquenie went 7:41.71, the third-fastest time in pool history.
In the diving competition, Kristen Meier was victorious in both events, scoring 276.80 in the 1-meter and 291.05 in the 3-meter. Her score on the 1-meter board was her best of the season and ranks as the second-best ever recorded at the Aquaplex. Meier's mark in the 3-meter goes down as the third-highest in pool history.
San Diego State, Northern Colorado and Tulane will compete in a second double-dual meet on Saturday (Jan. 8) at noon at the Aztec Aquaplex. That contest will consist of seven events that were not held during Friday's competition.
