THIS WEEK
The San Diego State swimming and diving team will be in action this week as they travel to Bakersfield, Calif., for a triple dual meet against Fresno State, UC San Diego and Cal State Bakersfield. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. at the Hillman Aquatics Centers on the CSUB campus. Cal State Bakersfield and Fresno State are both receiving votes in this week's CSCAA national poll while UC San Diego is sixth in the Division II national rankings.
HEAD COACH MIKE SHRADER
SDSU head coach Mike Shrader is in his fourth season with the Aztecs and has compiled a dual meet record of 43-13 (.768) during his tenure. Shrader was named the conference Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year at the conclusion of MWC championship meet each of the past two seasons (co-coach in 2009). His career record including eight seasons at Nevada stands at 132-25-1 (.839).
LAST TIME OUT
San Diego State finished first of three teams at the Sprint Eliminator hosted by University of San Diego on Tuesday (Jan. 11). SDSU finished with 304, ahead of USD (168) and Colorado State (148). The meet consisted of 50-yard races in each of the four strokes with prelims, semifinals and finals. Aztec swimmers finished first in three of the four events: 50 fly (Emilee Jennings - 26.00), 50 back (Leona Jennings - 27.01) and 50 breast (Katelyn Weddle - 30.27). Emilee Jennings was the lone competitor to finish in the top three of the finals in all four races.
AZTECS ADD FOUR DUAL MEET WINS
San Diego State picked up four dual meet victories in a pair of contests against both Tulane and Northern Colorado last Friday (Jan. 7) and Saturday (Jan. 8). With the wins SDSU improved to 12-0 on the season.
Over the two days, senior Emilee Jennings picked up first place finishes in two relays (200 medley & 200 free) and two individual events (100 breast & 100 IM). Her sister Leona captured the 400 IM and 200 fly and was also on the winning 200 free & 400 medley relay squads.
MEIER SETS THREE DIVING RECORDS
Junior Kristen Meier set a San Diego State diving records on all three boards last weekend. On Saturday (Jan. 8) she scored 301.05 in the 1-meter and 314.85 in the 3-meter to breaks the Aztec records she set earlier in the season. Both of those marks were new Aztec Aquaplex records as well. On Sunday at the Bruin Diving Invitational at UCLA, she scored 217.90 on the platform for her third school record of the weekend. Meier's scores in the three events ranks among the best in the conference this season:

For her efforts, Meier was named the Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week, the second time she has received the honor this season.
NON-CONFERENCE WIN STREAK
With last weekend's four wins, SDSU extended its streak of 32 straight dual meet victories against non-conference opponents. The last loss to a non-MWC team was a defeat at North Texas on Nov. 17, 2006. In current head coach Mike Shrader's three seasons, the Aztecs have not lost to a non-conference foe.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
San Diego State has also runs its home dual meet win streak to nine going back to last season. With victories in its six contests at home during the 2010-11 campaign, SDSU's record at the Aztec Aquaplex stands at 25-3 since the facility opened in the spring of 2008.
AZTECS NATIONALLY RANKED
San Diego State is ranked No. 24 in the nation in the latest poll released by the College Swim Coaches of America Association on January 12. The next poll is scheduled to be released on February 17.
TOP TIMES
Thus far in the 2010-11 campaign, San Diego State swimmers have recorded the league's top times in four individual swimming events and have 44 other times that rank among the top 15. In addition, the Aztecs also have the top times in the 200 free relay as well as both the 200 and 400 medley relays.
Several Aztec swimmers are listed among the top 65 times in the nation in various events. That group includes Kim Bierwith in the 50 free (59th); Stephanie Koch in the 50 free (61st), 100 free (60th) and 200 free (56th); Kelly Marquenie 500 free (53rd), 1000 free (16th) and 1650 free (28th); Melanie Garibaldi 1000 free (51st) and 1650 free (66th); Leona Jennings in the 100 back (31st) and 200 IM (53rd); and Katelyn Weddle in the 100 breast (11th) and 200 breast (28th).
SDSU times also rank 16th in the 200 free relay; 38th in the 400 free relay; 35th in the 800 free relay; 19th in the 200 medley relay; and 13th in the 400 medley relay.
