TUCSON, Ariz. - A trio of San Diego State divers concluded action at the Wildcat Diving Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson this past weekend. Sunday's platform competition was the final event of the three-day meet that saw the 3-meter and 1-meters events contested on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The trio of Kristen Meier, Anna Steiner and Aina Eill represented San Diego State at the Invitational. Each competed in all three events with the exception of Eill, who did not dive in the platform competition.
In the platform diving, junior Kristen Meier placed 18th of 38 competitors with a score of 184.85, a mark that ranks as the fifth-best in the SDSU record book. Teammate Anna Steiner finished 21st with a mark of 179.50, a score that enters the Aztec list in the No. 6 position. The winning score of 232.70 was recorded by Arizona's Ainsley Oliver.
In Friday's three-meter event, Meier was SDSU's top finisher coming in 28th (of 60) with 225.60 points. Other Aztec scores included junior Aina Eill with 181.45 points (53rd) and freshman Anna Steiner (56th) with 172.85. The event was won by Aubrey Bush of New Mexico, who tallied 313.05 points.
Meier also led SDSI in the 1-meter diving on Saturday with a mark of 233.30who placed 19th with 233.30 points to place 19th of 66 entrants. Other Aztec scores included Eill (48th) with 188.50 points and freshman Anna Steiner (54th) with183.25. Victoria Ishimatsu of USC captured the event with a score of 319.50.
The San Diego State swimming and diving team will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 4, when it visits Las Vegas for a dual meet against UNLV at 1:00 p.m. at the Rebel's Buchanan Natatorium.
