SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team will be back in the water this Sunday, Nov. 7, when it travels to Newport Harbor for the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival (NARF). The regatta will draw some of the top teams of the entire West Coast, including the Aztecs, UCLA, Stanford and USC.
SDSU will send six boats in three different categories at this year's NARF, including two in the women's open eight, three in the women's frosh/novice eight and one in the women's open four. The women's open eight will kick things off for the Aztecs at 8:00 a.m. They will be followed by the women's frosh/novice eight (9:15 a.m.) and the women's open four (9:45 a.m.).
Last year, SDSU's Novice Eight "A" boat finished the 2.7-mile course in 18 minutes, 10 seconds, one second behind USC's "A" boat (18:09) and 18 seconds back from first-place UCLA "A" (17:52). San Diego State's "B" boat was 15th in 22:46.
In the Open Four race, the Aztec "A" boat took fifth of 17 boats with a time of 19:04, one second behind both UC Davis "B" and Stanford "A" who came in at 19:03. San Diego State also had two boats race in the Open Eight race. The Aztecs' "A" boat took eighth of 21 boats in 17:52, while the "B" boat finished 15th in 18:44.
