SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team has been labeled as one of this season's "surprise bowl teams" in ESPN's coverage of non-automatic BCS qualifier conferences.
The Aztecs were tabbed for their first trip to a bowl game since 1998 by college football blogger, Andrea Adelson.
"I actually have San Diego State making a bowl game this season," Adelson said. "Ryan Lindley is solid, and I'm hearing good things about Ronnie Hillman. I've always thought Brady Hoke was a good coach." Junior quarterback Ryan Lindley and the "up-and-coming" Hillman were among the non-automatic qualifier conference's 10 storylines to watch.
The Aztecs were also recognized by ESPN college football insider Todd McShay, who listed senior wide receiver Vincent Brown as the fourth-best NFL prospect among non-automatic qualifier conference prospects. McShay praised Brown for "playing with a chip on [his] shoulder" and for "always looking to improve his game." The wideout was one of just two players from the Mountain West Conference to be included in McShay's rankings.
Brown enters his senior season with 140 career catches for 1,758 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last week, Rivals.com ranked San Diego State's receiving corps as the 11th best in the country, and the best in the Mountain West Conference.
The Aztecs kick off their 2010 season at home against Nicholls State on Sept 4, with tickets starting at just $5. Other notable dates include the Sept. 25 KGB Sky Show and Kirk Morrison Replica Jersey Night on Nov. 20.
