SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior wide receiver Vincent Brown and junior punter Brian Stahovich were named to the Sporting News preseason all-Mountain West Conference first team.

Despite missing the final five games of the 2009 season, Brown still finished fourth in the conference with 778 receiving yards and earned second-team all-MWC honors. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native was also rated as the conference's fastest wide receiver

A second-team all-conference selection last year, Stahovich finished second in the league with a punting average of 43.8 yards despite playing half of his games at sea level. Thirteen of his punts were downed inside the 20, which helped Stahovich rank No. 18 in the country in net punting average.

Junior quarterback Ryan Lindley, meanwhile, was named the Mountain West's best passing quarterback.

"The Aztecs are better because the players in the program are more comfortable with (head coach Brady) Hoke and his coaching staff, and vice versa," the Sporting News said.

Hoke's second season on Montezuma Mesa will begin Sept. 4 against Nicholls State. Season tickets for the 2010 season start at just $56 for six games. Tickets are available through the San Diego State ticket office at (619) 283-7378.
