SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's golf head coach Emilee Klein announced the addition Friday of Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) to the team's 2010-11 roster. Knight transfers to SDSU after attending Arizona State in 2009-10.
"I am very excited to have Alessia join the team and our Aztec family," Klein said. "She is an all-around solid player who has a lot of tournament experience and knows how to win. She will be a great addition to the team as we continue to try to move up the rankings."
A dual citizen of Italy and the United States, Knight prepped at Liceo Ginnasio "Luigi Galvani" in Bologna, Italy. She has been a member of the Italian national golf team since 2005, having represented Italy in five European team championships, as well as the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships in Australia. Last summer, Knight helped Italy claim the Sherry Cup by a single stroke at the European Team Stroke Play Championships.
In 2007, she earned the individual title at the Belgian Ladies Internationals and also finished first with teammate Chiara Brizzolari at the Italian Foursome Championship. Knight has advanced to match play at the British Girls and Ladies Amateur Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Knight is the second Arizona State transfer to join SDSU for the fall of 2010, joining former Sun Devil teammate Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.).
In Klein's first season as head coach, the Aztecs earned their first NCAA regional bid in six years, captured a pair of team tournament titles and ended the campaign with a No. 42 national ranking by Golfweek/Sagarin.
