AUSTIN, Texas - Jeanette McConnell finished 29th in the discus throw to pace San Diego State at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship West Preliminary Rounds Friday in Austin, Texas.

Both McConnell and Shana Watson, however, failed to advance to the final rounds, which will be held in Eugene, Ore., from June 9-12.

McConnell, who was seeded 30th in the West region coming into the weekend, took 29th with a toss of 150 feet, 0 inches. The top 16 overall advanced to a three-attempt final and the top 12 from that group moved on the finals in Eugene.

Watson, meanwhile, tied for 31st in the long jump with a leap of 19-03.25. The 31st-place finish was three places better than her No. 34 seed coming into the championships.

The Aztecs will look to advance their first competitor to Eugene in the final day of the preliminary rounds tomorrow, as both Alex Evans and Kai Wheeler are set for the triple jump, beginning at 2 p.m. CT.
