IRVINE, Calif. - Josefine Koskinen won the 800-meter run in the sixth-fastest time in school history to pace the San Diego State track and field team Sunday on the final day of the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif.
Koskinen defeated 39 other runners to win the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 8.47 seconds. Koskinen's 2:08.47 clocking is tied for the 58th-best time in the nation and 33rd-fastest in the West Region, according to the website www.TFRRS.org. It shaved more than two full seconds off her previous best time of the season of 2:10.78 run on March 28.
In hurdles action, Briana Johnson finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.09) and Kiersten Kirkland took fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.79). Alex Evans, meanwhile, set a collegiate-best time in the 100 hurdles (14.67).
Amy Brown was ninth in the 800 (2:15.06), while Alicia King (100 meters, 12.07), Jessika Hornsby (200 meters, 24.63) and Amber Waddell (400 meters, 57.13) each finished 11th in their respective event.
In field events, Julianne Alarcio (17 feet, 10 ¾ inches) and Evans (17-06.00) took seventh and ninth in the long jump, and Thoraya Maronsey was seventh in the triple jump (38-05.00).
The Aztecs will be back in action May 12-15 at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
