ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Briana Johnson finished second in the 100-meter hurdles to lead San Diego State to a seventh-place finish at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Aztecs had 70 points over the four-day meet, just ½ point shy of Utah (70.50) for sixth place and one point short of UNLV (71) for fifth. Brigham Young won the meet with 204 points, followed by TCU (121), Colorado State (101) and host New Mexico (93.50). Air Force (59.50) and Wyoming (28.50) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Johnson had the highest finish of the day for SDSU as her time of 13.92 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles was good enough for second place. Kiersten Kirkland followed Johnson in fourth with a season-best clocking of 14.13. Kirkland also scored in the 400 hurdles (eighth, 1:59.36).

Alicia King took fifth in the 100 (12.09), while Jessika Hornsby placed in both the 200 (seventh, 24.78) and 100 (eighth, 12.30). Josefine Koskinen, meanwhile, was seventh in the 800 (2:10.90).

In relay action, King, Hornsby, Johnson and Kirkland teamed up to take fourth in the 4x100 (46.00) and Hornsby, King, Koskinen and Kirkland were eighth in the 4x400 (3:49.21).

In the field events, it was the San Diego State triple jumpers that led the way. Alex Evans took third with a leap of 41 feet, ¼ inches, the seventh-best jump in school history. Kai Wheeler and Thoraya Maronsey, meanwhile, finished near their season bests with jumps of 39-11.50 (sixth place) and 39-03.00 (seventh place).

Jeanette McConnell and Maria Rodriguez each set personal-best marks in the shot put. McConnell placed sixth with a heave of 45-11.75 to improve her eighth-best mark in school history and Rodriguez was seventh with a toss of 45-09.25 (No. 9 all-time).

The Aztecs will be back in action May 28-29 at the NCAA West Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas.
