SDSU Softball Wraps Up Regular Season Home Schedule This Weekend Against MWC-Leader BYU, Utah
The San Diego State softball team wraps up its regular season home schedule this weekend in three crucial games that could go a long way in deciding the MWC championship and automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
The Aztecs (29-12, 7-2 MWC), who are receiving votes in both national polls and have won 21 of their last 25 games, will begin their weekend against league-leading Brigham Young (38-10, 9-2 MWC) at 6 p.m. Thursday. SDSU will then play Utah (24-25, 4-7 MWC) at 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Saturday's game will be the final home contest for seniors Monica Alnes, Sydney Fleming, Brittany Knudsen and Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario, who will each be honored in a postgame ceremony.
San Diego State won both of its games last weekend, defeating UNLV, 3-0, on Saturday and 3-0 again on Sunday.
The Aztec offense is batting .300, a mark which would be a school record if the season ended today. Brittany Knudsen leads SDSU with a .400 batting average, while Jessica Camello (.395) and Justeen Maeva (.352) are also hitting over .300.
Right-handed pitcher Samantha Beasley (24-7) ranks among the top-43 in the nation in seven categories, including top-10 marks in ERA (third, 0.81), strikeouts (10th, 301) and strikeouts per seven innings (10th, 11.11). Bailey Micetich, meanwhile, leads the MWC with three saves.
