COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) has once again been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the eighth weekly award of the season for the right-hander and the 12th of her career.

Beasley threw consecutive complete game shutouts as the Aztecs defeated UNLV, 3-0, on Saturday and by the same score on Sunday. Over the two games, Beasley struck out 17 and walked five. She limited a Rebel team that came into the weekend with the 15th-highest batting average in the country (.323) to just six hits (all singles) and a .128 average.

On Saturday, Beasley struck out 11 with no walks. She allowed three singles, including two infield hits. On Sunday, Beasley gave up three hits over seven innings of scoreless ball, registering six strikeouts against five walks.

On the season, Beasley is 24-7 with a 0.81 ERA over 189 2/3 innings. She has a school-record 301 strikeouts, 13 shutouts (10 solo) and a save, while holding the opposition to a .164 batting average. Beasley is 19-2 with a 0.72 ERA since Feb. 27 (135 1/3 innings).

Among the national leaders, Beasley ranks third in ERA, 10th in strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings (11.11), T-13th in solo shutouts, 17th in hits allowed per seven innings (4.06), T-17th in victories and 43rd in walks allowed per seven innings (1.48). Despite the national rankings, Beasley was not chosen as one of the 2010 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists.

SDSU (29-12, 7-2 MWC) welcomes league-leading Brigham Young (36-10, 9-2 MWC heading into its non-conference doubleheader today) Thursday at 6 p.m. PT.
