SDSU NCAA Second Round Game Notes vs. WVU in PDF Format
The San Diego State women's basketball team pulled off its second consecutive NCAA first round upset in as many years by defeating host and No. 6 seed Texas on Sunday to advance to the second round against 10th-ranked and No. 3 seed West Virginia. The Aztecs will face the Mountaineers on Tuesday, beginning at 6:40 p.m. PT/8:40 p.m. CT at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
The Aztecs are looking for their first-ever NCAA second-round victory, as a spot in the Sweet 16 and a trip to next weekend's Memphis Regional is at stake.
On Sunday, the Aztecs got 32 points from senior Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) to down a talented Texas team, 74-63, on its home floor. The NCAA first round win was SDSU's second consecutive and the fifth in program history.
San Diego State will take on a West Virginia team that advanced to the final of the Big East tournament and is currently ranked No. 10 in both the ESPN/Coaches and Associated Press Top 25 polls. The Mountaineers are 29-5 overall and notched a 58-43 victory over Lamar on Sunday.
San Diego State, which owns a 22-10 record, is playing in the NCAAs for the eighth time in school history and the second consecutive year. The Aztecs are the lone Mountain West Conference school remaining in the NCAA tournament on either the men's or women's side.
Tuesday's game will be televised live on ESPN2, while Chris Ello will have the live audio call on Xtra Sports 1360. Live stats for all contests are also available on goaztecs.com.
