Four San Diego State freshmen captured a total of seven individual events to lead the Aztecs to dual meet wins over Boise State (165-134) and Tulane (230-61) Thursday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. SDSU also took top honors in one relay and won its first diving competition of the season with a first-place finish in the 3-meter event. With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 10-1 on the year and remain perfect in eight dual meets at home.

San Diego State opened the double dual meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome of Leona Jennings, Katelyn Weddle, Brooke Vessey and Emilee Jennings finished in 1:45.23. That mark improved their season best by .51 seconds and ranks as the fourth-fastest time for an SDSU relay team in the event.

The Aztecs followed that win with a first-place showing in the 1000 free as freshman Melanie Garibaldi swam a personal season best 10:14.72. She would later double her win total on the day by taking the 500 free in 5:01.39. Both of her times rank as the fourth-best marks at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Another first-year Aztec, Katelyn Weddle, captured both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:03.61 and 2:17.00 respectively. Her time in the 200 breast established a new Aquaplex record, breaking the old mark of 2:17.97 which she set in SDSU's previous meet on Dec. 19.

Freshman Leona Jennings picked up wins in the 100 and 200 back with times of 56.28 and 2:02.29. She also swam on both the 200 medley and 400 free relays teams with the latter recording the fourth-best time in Aztec history at 3:29.61.

SDSU's other first-place in the swimming events came courtesy of freshman Stephanie Koch, who went 51.56 in the 100 free and, like Weddle, set a new Aquaplex record by besting the mark (51.60) she set in the last home meet. Koch also had runner-up finishes in both the 50 and 200 free.

Sophomore diver Aina Eill notched her top scores of the 2009-10 campaign on both the one-and three-meter boards. Her mark of 234.10 in the three-meter allowed her to capture first place in the event before finishing third in the one-meter diving with a score of 209.50.

In the 200 fly, junior Brooke Vessey's time of 2:04.90 was her best in three seasons as an Aztec, breaking her previous top mark by over four seconds. Her time goes into the SDSU record book as the third-fastest time in the event in school history.

San Diego State will resume Mountain West Conference action next week as it travels to Provo, Utah, to face preseason league favorite Brigham Young on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 4:00 p.m. (MT).
