LARAMIE, Wyo. - San Diego State was unable to overcome the 7000-foot altitude in Laramie as it dropped a 153-128 decision at the University of Wyoming Friday evening. The dual meet was the final Mountain West Conference contest of the season for the Aztecs who completed their league campaign with a 5-3 mark and a fourth-place finish. SDSU's final MWC record and placing are its best since joining the conference in 1999. The Aztecs' overall record now stands at 11-3.

For the fourth consecutive met, freshman Leona Jennings captured first place in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. She finished the 100 back in a time of 1:03.64 and went 2:05.14 in the 200 back.

Another first-year Aztec, freshman Melanie Garibaldi, was also a double winner for San Diego State as she was victorious in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events with times of 5:02.05 and 10:27.10 respectively.

Katelyn Weddle continued her mastery in the 100 breaststroke, winning that race in 1:03.64. She has failed to finish first in her specialty only once during the 2009-10 season.

San Diego State's other first-place result came in the 200 butterfly where Brooke Vessey grabbed first place with a mark of 2:06.95.

The Aztec 400 free relay quartet of Stephanie Koch, Emilee Jennings, Petra Radovic and Jessica Crider finished second in the final event of the evening, but their time of 3:30.02 goes down as the sixth-best time ever for an Aztec foursome.

While the swimming events were being contested in Laramie, the SDSU divers were competing at the Air Force Diving Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. In the one-meter competition held Friday afternoon, Aztec freshman Rafaella Suarez made her season debut by finishing 12th of 24 competitors with a score of 233.30.

San Diego State will have little time to rest as it will be in Greeley, Colo., on Saturday (Jan. 30) for a dual meet against Northern Colorado scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. (MT). The Aztec divers, meanwhile, will remain in Colorado Springs for day two of the Air Force Diving Invitational.
