SAN DIEGO - San Diego State turned in the top times in all eleven swimming events as it defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 123-105, Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. Three Aztecs won two events apiece to lead the way as SDSU improved to 6-1 in dual meet competition this fall. The Aztecs dominated every race and elected not to score in any of the final three races.
After the Aztec foursome of Allison Stuhr, Katelyn Weddle, Stephanie Koch and Kim Bierwith opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, freshman Meghan Zimmer captured the first of her two first-place finishes by winning the 1000 free in 10:26.17. Her time was the ninth-fastest in SDSU history and ranks as the sixth-best time in the event at the Aztec Aquaplex. Zimmer would later take top spot in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.56.
A second freshman, Leona Jennings, followed Zimmer's 1000 free win by finishing first in the 200 free in 1:54.96 in her first attempt at the event this season. Three races later, Jennings would add a victory the 200 fly in 2:07.60.
San Diego State's other double winner was another first-year Aztec in Stephanie Koch, who won both the 200 individual medley (2:09.03) and 500 free (5:02.33). Her marks in each of those events go down as the third-best times for the event at the Aquaplex.
Three other SDSU swimmers also had first-place finishes in their events. Kim Bierwith won the 50 free in 24.51, Petra Radovic took the 100 free in 54.70 and Melanie Garibaldi was victorious in the 200 back in 2:11.31. Bierwith's mark in the 50 free ranks as the fourth-best time recorded at SDSU's pool.
The Aztecs finished the afternoon by turning in the day's fastest time in the 200 free relay as the quartet of Alexis McCoy, Emilee Jennings, Kyla Power and Shelly Perkins went 1:41.82 (seventh best in the event at the Aquaplex).
Up next for San Diego State is a double dual meet in two weeks as MWC foe UNLV and Oregon State visit the Aztec Aquaplex on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1:00 p.m. (PT).
