COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Petra Radovic has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, her first career honor and the first for an SDSU athlete this season.
Radovic, who hails from Zagreb, Croatia, set a pair of school records on her way to winning the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.66) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:10.17) events in a triple-dual meet vs. TCU, Idaho, and UC San Diego. She also swam the third leg of the Aztecs' 400-yard free relay team that won with a time of 3:30.36, which ranks as the fourth best time in program history.
Her time in the 500 ranks as the 32nd best time in the NCAA (second in the MWC) this season while her time in the 1000 is 40th in Division I (first in the MWC). Her wins in those races against 20 and 17 competitors respectively. All three events in which she competed also set SDSU Aztec Aquaplex records.
The Aztecs recorded victories in all three dual competitions as they defeated TCU (162-13), Idaho (182.5-103.5) and UC San Diego (184-94) to improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The University of San Diego also had swimmers competing in the meet, but they did not score against San Diego State as the teams will meet later in the season.
The SDSU swimming and diving team is idle this weekend but will return to action in two weeks when the swimmers compete at the Nike Cup in Long Beach, Calif. (Nov. 19-21), while the divers are at the Wildcat Diving Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. (Nov. 20-22)
